Dan Panorama Eilat invites you to lounge…

High-End Room Design of Dan Eilat

The new lounge at the Dan Panorama Eilat is a quiet place designed for people who want to enjoy quality time in a luxurious atmosphere.

The new lounge at the Dan Panorama Eilat aims to provide a quiet and convenient corner for guests staying in executive rooms, terrace rooms and suites that are located on the third to sixth floors. It also caters for business people who wish to spend quality time away from the hustle and heat of Eilat, who will find the lounge a perfect solution.

The lounge, located next to the main lobby, can be entered with a room key card provided at the check – in counter, enabling quick entry without having to wait. The lounge has three seating areas all with a view of the Eilat lagoon: A high bar table, dining tables and cozy seating areas. The lounge can accommodate about 30 people.

The lounge which opened on June 1, 2014, is fully equipped with computer stations, fax and print services, weekly and monthly magazines in various languages including English, French, Russian and Hebrew and of course complimentary Wi-Fi that is also available in all rooms and public areas.

At least a million shekels have been invested in the lounge that has been modernly and innovatively designed, in a new and fresh atmosphere, from the color schemes that have been environmentally matched carpets in shades of green, cream-colored wallpaper and furniture in shades of cream, black and brown. Huge blue and white lampshades, hanging from the ceiling, imbue a sense of warmth. The upgrading of the lounge has been made after the extensive renovations that the hotel underwent last year: All seating areas in the lobby were replaced, new furnishings purchased; the dining area was upgraded – all in a modern, fresh and colorful style. The hotel entrance is dominated by a breathtaking atrium which rises six floors high.

Guy Adiran, the hotel’s CEO: “In the past, when the lounge was located on the sixth floor it comprised of three rooms. Here we have defined the space and also opened a door to the adjacent kitchen, so everything is done on suite. Food is cooked and served directly to the guests.

The lounge conveys uniqueness and luxury, serves a selection of desserts, soft drinks and hot beverages, fresh juices and seasonal fruit. In the evening hot soup is served.

According to Guy Adiran, although business people are not the main market segment in Eilat hotels, the lounge provides a perfect solution for people wishing to have a business meeting or companies who want to conduct meetings in a quiet place with office and communication services. “This also provides the Israeli holiday maker with a quiet corner to: read a newspaper, listen to music, enjoy a variety of snacks and special cuisine and drink a complimentary glass of beer or wine.

Leading the Rank

According to Adiran, what distinguishes the hotel is cost versus benefit. “We definitely lead when it comes to offering reasonable prices that cater for all pockets, serving high quality food, providing a clean and aesthetically pleasing hotel and a variety of activities”. He continues, “This is the third consecutive year that the hotel’s occupancy rate stands at an annual 90%, while annual occupancy in Eilat ranges from 68% – 70%. We rank far above our competitor occupancy rates in the city”. In the age of the Internet, web user opinions are crucial . According to Adiran, the hotel receives hundreds of excellent reviews and leads the ranking of Eilat hotels.

the Expedia website

For example, BOOKING.COM rates Dan Panorama Eilat “very good” with a score of 8.3., reviews. One opinion praised the hotel’s location, which based on 538 is close to the promenade and allows free entry to the hotel’s private beach, which actually saves the need to hire a sun bed and parasol on any other beach. “And it is also important to note that this beach is quiet and very pleasant. Food served at breakfast was excellent, there was a large selection and service was courteous and quick. The swimming pool is equipped with sun beds and hammocks and music played at a reasonable volume, great to spend the day. On arrival the service at reception was courteous and we received complimentary coffee and cake which already gives a great feeling.
Bottom line is that this hotel is recommended! quoted from one of the many favorable reviews. Is there any need to add more?
The pools and surroundings also underwent a facelift with personal relaxation areas and hammocks. A 500 meter play park with a variety of inflatables for children is also located near the pool.

At the “Danyland” club

there are many facilities to engage children, providing them with a world of games, attractions and activities under the supervision of experienced staff, who do everything to ensure a great experience for children whilst allowing parents to enjoy peace of mind.

Interior design with a vista

Architect Nathan Feldman, from Carmeli and Nathan Feldman – Architects, who designed the lounge, explains the introspective of the design “our goal was to design a comfortable and relaxing lounge. This is reflected in even the smallest details: from carefully choosing the wall and ceiling colors to give a sense of comfort and calmness, through uniquely designing three seating areas at different heights to ensure a free and open view of the lagoon from every angle, to the thought of hanging large fabric lampshades from the high ceiling, creating a sense of intimacy and warmth.

The impressive buffet located in the centre of the lounge serving cold foods on one side and hot foods on the other, is detached from the floor and gives the illusion that the buffet floats in the air. The lounge floor is carpeted with a carpet designed to enhance the warm atmosphere and acoustics, the furniture is made from natural chunky oak”.

At the Dan Carmel everything is Deluxe

After celebrating it’s 50 year jubilee in 2013 and completing renovation of all the rooms and suites, now it’s the swimming pool’s turn to “fall in line” with the highest international standards that characterize all Dan Hotels.

Swimming pool at Dan Carmel

The hotel has always had a semi Olympic pool, located in the heart of a green garden, an island of calm and relaxation that allows guests to disconnect and forget the fact that just a few steps away, beyond the hotel’s grounds, resides the hustle and bustle of the large city that seemingly complies with the customary request “do not disturb” … As is the standard in Dan Hotels, any remodeling is a process deeply and thoroughly carried out without any compromises or shortcuts: “We demolished the old pool with a bulldozer and started to build something entirely new from scratch,” says Adi Maor, CEO of Dan Hotels in Haifa, who accompanied the entire reconstruction and upgrade process of all the hotel rooms, “our short window of opportunity required that we complete all renovations before the opening of the official swimming season.” And that’s exactly what happened. After six months of intensive hard work and an investment of eight million shekels, Maor can now, with unconcealed pride, open his smartphone photo gallery and gaze at the impressive photos of the new pool and surroundings.

Fitness Gym at the Hotel

In other words, – kind of a dream come true …

The inspiration for the new design came from the pool of the King David Hotel. A quality infrastructure is the heart of the matter, the entire pool is built of cast concrete. The quality of the water is excellent: an automatically controlled system, which operates without human intervention, ensures complete sterilization and controls the PH and chlorine levels in accordance with Ministry of Health requirements, and even more. “There is probably no other hotel in the country equipped with such a high level swimming pool control system,” says Maor.

The pool interior is tiled with glazed effect mosaics in shades of blue and green, the pool side, tiled with Italian granite deck like non-slip tiles with hidden drainage slots, the water level is right up to the pool edge giving the illusion that the water overflows …
The lighting is a spectacular visual experience: dozens of LED bulbs and lamps set in the pool walls flood the pool in the evening with a bright blue light, creating a magical and exotic look that is an attraction in itself.

Haifa Hotel With a Pool

New pool, new experiences

The new pool at the Dan Carmel upgrades the experience of indulgence and pleasure. A warm welcome awaits you as you arrive at the pool: the water temperature is set at exactly 28 degrees, no more and no less. This temperature, set at the optimal level, ensures pleasantly warm water and an enjoyable bathe right from the very first moment.

Fancy a rest after swimming?
The shaded splash pool is only 35 cm deep and equipped with low chairs, allowing you to sit in the pool with only your legs in the water and read a book, have an ice cream or just rest and enjoy total relaxation. Another relaxation option for those who prefer to be away from the pool, is a shady and pleasant elevated deck overlooking the woods.

Hungry or feel like a snack?

The pool’s snack bar offers soft drinks, ice cream and fruit and also a shaded indoor restaurant with 84 seats, where you can sit and relax, in your swimsuit and enjoy a meat please note: the food is prepared in the hotel kitchen in lunch and BBQ order to ensure that the pool area is always free from the smell of cooking.

Vacation with the children?

You can enjoy peace of mind, whilst your children will enjoy a variety of special entertainment activities: a separate kiddie pool, also with warm water, a lawn with play facilities, and adjacent to the pool – a playground equipped with new first-rate facilities that provide challenging sports activities with all the “action” that children love ….

Disability awareness:

The Dan Hotel chain considers the disability awareness topic of utmost importance and invests considerable resources in designing and adapting hotels for guests with special needs. As in all areas of the hotel, the pool is equipped with a hydraulic lifting facility allowing handicapped guests to enjoy the pool.

Maor concludes: “Now, after having finished the pool area renovations, I feel that you can now name the hotel The New Dan Carmel – every corner of the hotel has been changed. Everything has been redesigned and rebuilt.”

Additional advantages the hotel offers its guests, such as: a breathtaking view from the room balconies, located within walking distance of Haifa tourist attractions, personal and uncompromisable service, elegant and spacious lobby, new and modern gym and a variety of quality restaurants – making it without a doubt one of the leading hotels in Israel and the most prestigious hotel in the north of Israel.

Dan Gourmet Culinary School

The Dan Gourmet culinary school is celebrating its first year, during which it has attracted cooking enthusiasts of all skill levels to a variety of gourmet courses and workshops.

The Gourmet Cuisine of Dan Hotels

 So what’s on the menu?

Omer, an amateur chef and self-confessed carnivore, came to the Meat Challenge Workshop to learn some new roasting techniques. The workshop was so interesting that it stimulated his appetite for further studies, and he was soon attending the Charcuterie Workshop on smoking and preserving meat. Etti, a spry and youthful retiree, has always loved to bake. But she ventured out of her home kitchen, where she makes wonderful pastries, to attend Dan Gourmet’s Pastry Workshop, expand her expertise in preparing petit fours and other desserts, and especially to enjoy all “the fun and enthusiasm”. She completed the workshop with flying colors and is still at Dan Gourmet today, this time as a teacher for the Young Chef Workshop. Ora, an educator and Bible teacher by profession, comes to the Pastry Workshop after an exhausting day’s work, but from the moment she gets to the school she’s instantly “awash with new energy,” she says. Ora is ready for a change, and hopes that the knowledge she acquires through the workshop will open the door to a new career.

In the year since its opening, Dan Gourmet has emerged as an initiative that is transforming the culture of culinary education in Israel, offering a range of popular, highly sought-after gourmet workshops for every type of cooking enthusiast: Meat Challenge, Far East Magic, Secrets of the Italian Kitchen, Sweet Breakfast Pastries, and many more. Hundreds of budding chefs have already flocked to the country’s most sophisticated facility, and many have returned for a second helping, enthused after completing one workshop and eager to start another. “It’s no accident,” explains Nira Ramon, Dan Gourmet’s manager. “Our students benefit from the best possible study conditions: well-equipped individual workstations, the highest quality ingredients, and the finest teachers and lecturers.” Dan Gourmet’s team of instructors includes, first and foremost, Chef Amir Ilan, the Dan Gourmet’s Director of Culinary Education, pastry chef Maya Revivo, who heads the Pastry and Baking Department, and pastry chef Eran Shvartzbard, one of Israel’s leading chefs.

What’s Cooking at Dan Gourmet?

At Dan Gourmet, cooking together is the ideal environment for enthusiasts to cook up unique and creative ideas: junior chefs, for example, had great fun at the Young Chef Workshop during their summer vacation. This workshop was extremely successful and may become a regular, year-round event. Couples, friends, mothers and daughters find that a cooking workshop is not only a chance to demonstrate their skills, but also to improve their relationships. At unique singles’ workshops, barriers are broken down in an easygoing atmosphere as the students get to know each other, and even discover, as the Hebrew saying goes, that every pot has its lid…But it’s not just the amateurs who are drawn to Dan Gourmet – the pros love it too. Two new extended professional courses were launched this year at Dan Gourmet: the Professional Gourmet cooking course and the Professional Pastry Chef course in baking and pastry-making are Israel’s most prestigious cooking courses and an excellent reason to give up traveling abroad for culinary studies.

Large organizations are also showing interest in Dan Gourmet: companies such as Osem, Unilever, and Tnuva have made the school their second home, and take advantage of Dan Gourmet’s benefits for workshops, culinary instruction, and food product launches. Dan Gourmet has also developed special workshops for training, corporate teambuilding, and developing management skills, accompanied by a chef and corporate consultant. Group cooking creates and strengthens a sense of camaraderie, encouraging team members to think creatively and act according to the values the company wishes to instill in its employees.

Who Are You, Herod?

A journey into the life and death of Herod. An inaugural exhibition at the Israel Museum outlines the multifaceted personality of the man dubbed The Last King of the Jews.

Caesarea of Herod

For years the burial place of King Herod was an enigma, pondered by archaeologists and historians worldwide. In mid 2007, after spending 35 years of his life researching the cryptic character of Herod, the eminent archaeologist, the late Professor Ehud Netzer of the Hebrew University, unearthed the remains of the king’s grave on the border of the Judean desert at the Herodium. The palace – fortress revealed on the site included pools, decorative bathhouses and a theater with a royal cubicle. Three years later, on the same site where he made his sensational discovery, Professor Netzer tragically fell to his death in an accident, a few meters away from the grave whose discovery was the fulfillment of a dream and the pinnacle of his illustrious professional career.

The inaugural exhibition, the first one worldwide, devoted entirely to Herod ,one of the most disputed, fascinating and multifaceted characters in Jewish history and in the history of the Roman Empire, is currently being exhibited in Jerusalem at the Israel Museum. The crowning glory is an impressive reproduction of Herod’s burial chamber. Dudi Mevorah and Silvia Rosenberg, leading archeological curators at the Israel Museum, have brought together some 250 archeological items chosen from artifacts recently excavated at the Herodium, Jericho and other sites. These exciting findings are likely to cast a new light on political, architectural and aesthetic influences during Herod’s reign between 37 BC – 4 BC. The artifacts displayed include burial coffins (sarcophagi) from Herod’s tomb, wall paintings from the Herodium, Herod’s personal bath from Kypros, engraved stone items from the Temple Mount never before displayed, and an embellished marble basin which researchers assume was a present from Augustus to Herod.

Builder- or Fanatical Murderer?

King Herod is well known for his colossal building projects which required vast resources and changed the face of the Land of Israel. In addition to his most renowned project – the construction of the Temple Mount and the temple – Herod built spectacular palaces, fortresses, public buildings, pagan temples and entire towns reflecting a combination of local traditions and building materials, with Roman styles and technology. Herod rightfully earned the title The Greatest Builder in the Land; but Herod the builder also spread destruction and devastation. A suspicious and cruel king, he executed many of his people, including his beloved Hasmonean wife, Mariamne, whom he murdered in a frenzy of jealousy, and three of his sons whom he accused of trying to undermine him.

Found Caesarea interesting? Book a room now in Dan Caesarea Hotel

The exhibition aims to improve our understanding of this historical figure through his monumental architecture and the artistic artifacts he surrounded himself with. Both Herod’s extensive construction projects and his complex diplomatic connections with the Caesars and Roman nobility are examined, as well as his lavish funeral procession from Jericho to the burial complex he built for himself at the Herodium.

What to see in Caesarea?

Tyrant Ruler or Daring Politician?

The annals of history will not erase the depiction of Herod as a cruel king, who ruled by brute force in opposition to the will of the people, and who treated his opponents with an iron fist. Yet at the same time he is recognized as a cautious politician who understood the balance of power and succeeded in preserving Judean independence for many years. Herod’s rise to power was interwoven with the meteoric expansion of the Roman Empire, so admired by Herod. Though initially supportive of Mark Anthony, upon the latter’s defeat, Herod read the political map correctly and nurtured his loyalty to the first Caesar, Augustus. Nothing was spared in Herod’s efforts to express his allegiance: temples and cities were built and dedicated to the Caesar and his deputy Marcus Agrippa, in addition to providing financial, military and political support. Herod’s special ties with Rome were exemplified through statues of Augustus, Livia and Marcus Agrippa, and magnificent contemporary artifacts found in the Herodium which were brought to the area from Rome or crafted by Roman artisans.

The Last Journey from Jericho to the Herodium

More than two thousand years have passed since King Herod’s funeral was conducted at the Herodium, a funeral which he planned down to the finest detail. Towards the end of his life, Herod changed the interior design of the complex to suit his funeral procession and burial, and constructed a lavish mausoleum facing Jerusalem. In the wake of the hatred towards him, no representative of the Jewish people attended his funeral, and the chapters of his convoluted life were best summed up by one of his contemporaries: “He stole into the kingdom like a fox, ruled like a tiger and died like a dog”. The exhibition is set up to follow Herod’s funeral procession; commencing at the royal throne room in his winter palace in Jericho and progressing via Jerusalem to his family tomb, which he himself had prepared in advance, in the Herodium. The final journey of the king is displayed through replicas of special architectural components from Jericho and the Herodium, including the lavish king’s room from the Jericho palace, where his coffin was placed, and the tomb from the mausoleum.

Caesarea artifacts

“The exhibition commemorates the life work of Professor Ehud Netzer, who regarded the unearthing of Herod’s grave as the pinnacle of his excavations”, says James Snyder, Israel Museum director.”Archeological findings on the site in the past five years have deepened our appreciation of this accomplishment, and enriched our understanding of Herod, his kingdom and his role in the history of the region. Following the extensive reconstruction and preservation activities carried out in the museum laboratories, we are proud to present these important findings to the public in an exhibition describing this pivotal period in the history of the Land of Israel.”

The “In Herod’s Footsteps” Weekend at the King David Hotel

Israel’s premier hotel, the King David Jerusalem, recently opened its doors to host a special experience for e-Dan club members: a history-themed weekend focusing on the fascinating and thrilling life of King Herod, as well as the “good life” philosophy that defined his reign. The club members enjoyed a series of guided tours that enabled them to explore the king’s multifaceted character: the “Herod the Great” exhibition at the Israel Museum; Herodion National Park, where Herod’s tomb was discovered just a few years ago; his palace-fortress; Herod’s family tomb, which can be found in a concealed, secluded area at the rear of the King David Hotel; innovative architecture on the Temple Mount, and more. The unquestionable highlight of the weekend, however, was the celebratory “King’s Banquet” that gave the club members the chance to taste the “good life” of Herod’s era: free-flowing wine, music, and dancing that evoked the spirit of that magnificent period.

Following Herod`s Tour

Tel Aviv of Yesteryear

What made Meir Dizengoff angry? Who was Bialik’s great love? What happened in Meir Park in the 1950s? A tour of the Tel Aviv of yesteryear, focusing on events, places and non-stop romance…

"The Station" compound in Tel aviv

Tel Aviv of the 1920s and 1930s is full of romantic stories, tragedies and joys. One of the city’s most popular tours is “Tel Aviv of Yesteryear”, focused on events, places and people. How did it happen that Meir Dizengoff was given Meir Park as a gift, and why did he become angry and decide to name two alleys Plonit and Almonit (“John Doe” and “Jane Doe”)? Why did Sonia Getzel Shapira leave her husband, and what romantic tragedy was behind it? What’s the story behind the name “Magen David Square” and who invited Bialik to live in Tel Aviv? What passions and betrayals are hidden at Trumpeldor Cemetery, and who is buried alongside the country’s national poet and his wife Mania?

It is recommended to begin this two-hour tour in Meir Park – a 32-dunam public park in the center of Tel Aviv, which was given as a gift to Meir Dizengoff, the city’s then mayor, for his 70th birthday. This generous gift was the decision of the Tel Aviv Municipality, which conducted a competition the following year awarding prizes for the design and landscaping of the park. The competition was won by Aharon Halevy, who created a design featuring more than 60 types of plants, tranquil relaxation areas, statues and more. However, Halevy’s plan met with many objections, most notably those of Dizengoff himself, and the park never came to be. Then, at about the same time, the rains came in floods and so did the park’s critics in the press. It was reported that Dizengoff had asked for Meir Park, and got Meir Swamp. Dizengoff was furious and wanted to return the gift. It was not until seven years after Meir Dizengoff’s passing, in 1942, that the park was finally planted according to a design by the city gardener Avraham Carvan, and city engineer Yaakov Shifman. The park became a focal point for local kindergarten events, with Tu b’Shvat tree plantings and other traditional harvest celebrations. Concerts and singing events were also often held in the park.

However, in the 1950s a shocking double murder was committed in Meir Park, transforming the once romantic and popular park into a ghost town. The abandoned park became a hotspot for crime, drugs and prostitution, and it was only rehabilitated and restored in the 1980s. At one point, Meir Park was going to be turned into an underground parking lot, but in the end it was agreed that it should instead be returned to its former pastoral glory, providing a green space in the center of Tel Aviv. Today, Meir Park has been restored to its heyday, and thousands of visitors, mainly children and the elderly, flock to the area. On weekends, particularly in the summer, the park is alive with popular events.

Tour Old Tel Aviv

Now, let’s leave Meir Park and walk a little way south along King George Street until we arrive at Plonit Alley and Almonit Alley. In the early 1920s, a wealthy Jewish American couple, Meir and Sonia Getzel Shapira, came to be an integral part of the story of these alleys. Meir was deeply in love with his wife and took care of her every need. Apart from the large mansion, servants’ quarters and even horses’ stable he built for her, he also planted Washingtonia palm trees to declare his love. He even included a lion statue, but in the end Sonia Getzel Shapira, perhaps overwhelmed by her husband’s intense ardor, ran off with the gardener, in a tragic twist that was the hottest story of the young, developing city. Before this tragedy unfolded, Meir Shapira had arranged to have the alley opposite the house named after his wife, and the alley leading away from the home named after him. When Meir Dizengoff, the dominating mayor of Tel Aviv, heard that a mere citizen had the chutzpah to name city streets after himself and his wife, he dispatched city inspectors to obliterate the street signs. The mayor even decided that there was no need for anyone to ever be reminded of the name “Shapira”, and so he renamed the alleys “Plonit” and “Almonit” (the equivalent of “John Doe” and “Jane Doe”). As it happened, Meir Getzel Shapira was rich enough to purchase the land north of Jaffa, where the Shapira neighborhood was eventually established.

Tel Aviv Sight seeing

The tour continues towards Magen David (“Star of David”) Square, where six roads meet: Allenby, Sheinkin, HaCarmel, Allenby again, King George and Nahalat Binyamin. Continue west and you’ll reach the corner of Allenby and Bialik Streets, where they meet Tchernichovsky Street. Here we have two poets who, when alive, were ill-disposed towards one another, and the Tel Aviv Municipality decided to immortalize them on parallel streets, which just happen to meet at the corner of Allenby.
A tour of Bialik Street is a complete experience in its own right, so on this romantic tour we are just passing through on our way to Trumpeldor Cemetery. A wealth of fascinating sites can be found on Bialik Street. Apart from the home of the national poet, there is also the house of artist Reuven Rubin.
At the beginning of the 1920s, a “sanatorium” operated here, with therapeutic hot and cold pools in a building that was later to become an Eastern European yeshiva. It’s important to stop for a moment next to the old municipal building, which was built as a hotel yet was very quickly transformed, under the instruction of Meir Dizengoff, into the offices of the Tel Aviv Committee, which were moved from Rothschild Boulevard. Idelson and Hebron Streets will lead you to Trumpeldor Cemetery. Among the graves of some of Tel Aviv’s leading historical figures (including one Prime Minister: Moshe Sharett), you can find fascinating stories, betrayals and affairs. The story that stands out the most is that of Chaim Nachman Bialik and the poet Ira Yan, Bialik’s great love who is buried not far from him and his wife Mania. According to literary researchers, including Professor Ziva Shamir, many of Bialik’s great works were frankly influenced by his connection with Ira Yan, the central love story of his life. Hidden in the cemetery are many similar stories of mistresses who lie in total silence next to the objects of their affection – and their legal wives.
